Collage – This is the combination of heterogeneous elements on the plane into a single work to create an emotional intensity and poignancy that they do not possess separately. Appliqué is a similar concept, but less broad, as it is applied at the level of textures and textures. Appliqué is decorative and closer to inlay.
Collages are created both with glue and scissors and in programs on the computer. In the case of real and classic materials, it is acceptable to finish with ink, acrylics, felt-tip pens, etc. In the digital process different overlays and transparencies are used, color and shape are edited.
Separately worth highlighting the creation of hyperrealistic images from different photos – photo collage or photomontage. Another term, photobash, is used for texturing objects with photos. For example, simple 3D models are made believable by superimposing and fitting to them suitable parts of images.
Digital painting. Imitations of traditional tools are sometimes indistinguishable, even by professionals. In order to draw well on a computer one must be able to apply the laws of composition, light and shade, perspective, etc. Many artists’ work on paper and on the computer is very similar to one another.
Basically it’s all the same right color in the right place, only the basis is a canvas with a certain number of pixels and their resolution (density, number per inch). And the tools can be downloaded from other creators or customized to your taste, based on the parameters available.
The advantages of working in digital:
- Working with layers, their properties and overlays
- history and the ability to save different versions
- brush effects, blurring and a variety of line patterns
- Palettes and a wide range of tones
- Combination with textures and photos
- any shape transformations and corrections (without losses, only within the limits of available sizes)
- generation of noise of a given type
- fine tuning of dynamic range
- an abundance of filters and effects
However, when starting out, such a variety of tools can be a hindrance to achieving the integrity of the work. So often traditional techniques, with their natural limitations, give a better understanding of the author’s approach to expressiveness.
